Dear Colleagues...
It is my pleasure to invite you to the Michigan Chapter's 22nd Annual Conference.
The planning committee carefully combined popular traditions with new elements to make the program of interest to every subspecialist and member of the cardiac care team.
We've kept a general session featuring keynote speakers of national renown and added focus symposia to address the ever-growing breadth of cardiology. Fellows will compete in the first Cardiology Jeopardy as well as their traditional case and research competitions. Cutting edge science continues to be our hallmark, while delivery of care and quality improvement bolster the program.
Finally, we return to our traditional venue, Grand Traverse Resort, and add Chapter Central, our "family room" where we can relax, meet with colleagues, and enjoy the Michigan/Michigan State game.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Simon Dixon, MBChB, FACC
Conference Chair

CARDIOMETABOLIC RISK REDUCTION THROUGH WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
A CME CERTIFIED PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
This newly designed National Lipid Association (NLA) program focuses on the practical aspects of office based weight management for patients with cardiometabolic risk. The role and benefits of weight loss approaches in cardiometabolic risk reduction will be reviewed, and expert insight regarding their clinical implementation will be provided. This course incorporates case studies and basic quality improvement strategies to assist you in setting standards-based performance goals for managing various patient populations. Program tools will support patient education, outcomes measurement and practice improvement.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Integrate established evaluation criteria into practice for the accurate classification of overweight and obese patients with cardiometabolic risk
- Recognize the importance of lifestyle modification in the reduction of cardiometabolic risk and encourage such changes in their patients
- Apply more effective physician/patient communication techniques to support patients' efforts at self-management
- Appropriately utilize pharmaceutical and surgical weight management strategies to assist patients in achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight
- Implement a team-based approach to the clinical management of overweight and obesity, effectively involving nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, lifestyle educators, and other healthcare professionals
